Iphone over takes Windows Mobile

Researchers estimate that Apple's Iphone has approximately 28% of the US market for smart phones in the 4th quarter of 2007. This mean that Apple has become the 2nd best selling smart phone in America. Moving Microsoft's Windows Mobile down to 3rd place with only 21% of the US. market. In the international scene the Apple's Iphone is about 5th coming in behind Nokia, RIM, HTC, and Motorola. These numbers are really quite impressive because the Iphone only became available to many regions part way through the 4th quarter. With progress like this the Iphone very well could be in the top 3 for the international market next quarter.

In Sub-Saharan Africa millions of people will suffer the damaging effects of HIV and Aids. Organizations have been set up in order to educate and delay the affects of te virus. Hopefully with these efforts, the future will hold a cure.

Created by Bono and Bobby Shriver, (RED) is an brand designed to raise awareness and money. The contributions will be towards The Global Fund, that will help woman and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa. Apple has contributed the proceeds from every iPod shuffle, iPod nano, and iTunes Gift Card (PRODUCT)RED to help with the cause. First quarter a Succeses

January 22, 2008 Apple released it first quarter results for the 2008 fiscal year. The Company posted revenue of $9.6 billion and net quarterly profit of $1.58 billion, or $1.76 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $7.1 billion and net quarterly profit of $1 billion, or $1.14 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 34.7 percent, up from 31.2 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 45 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

This is a boost to the economy as well as a payback for the shareholders who have invested in Apple.

Steve Jobs is quoted in saying "We’re thrilled to report our best quarter ever, with the highest revenue and earnings in Apple’s history." With all the new products Apple has ready for release the following quarter should be just as positive as this one.

"Now There's Even More to Touch"

The iPod Touch has many great features. Not only can you listen to your music and watch movies, you can also check stocks, weather, email, maps, web clips, plus more. All of these are checked with Wi-Fi. It allows you to customize your home screen and take notes. The Touch is available in the 16 GB (3,500 songs), the 8GB (1,750 songs), and the brand new 32GB (7,000 songs) versions. The price starts at $319. This will vary in price depending on the size and features you get.

The things that have improved greatly in the ipod are the battery life and size. The Touch is said to have up to 22 hrs of audio and 5 hrs of video. It is said to have a 3.5-inch widescreen display. This is larger than the new iPod classic but it is still as thin. These are my favorite parts of the iPod Touch. The old iPods have about 8 hrs of audio battery life and they were much larger. iTunes Movie Rentals

A new feature added to the iTunes store is the ability to rent and watch movies. The price depends on the quality and the age of the movie. Standard-definition movie rentals are $2.99 for library titles and $3.99 for new releases. Rent a movie and you have 30 days to start watching it. Hit Play, and you have 24 hours to finish it — or play it as many times as you want. Rentals disappear when they expire, so they won’t take up storage space on your hard drive. You can also transfer these movies to your iPod or iPhone for when you are on the go.

Apple was not the first to use this technology, but they have made it much better than other sites/sources. I was impressed with the quality of both the sound and picture. Also I like how you don't have to get off the couch to return the video. The only thing I disliked was trying to find them. You have to go to the United States iTunes store to find them. On top of that, you have to have a US iTunes account to download them. This technology should be available for Canadian iTunes users in the near future.

This new technology is making it hard for video rental stores to stay competitive. Rightfully so though, because people have been getting ripped off for decades with late fees from places like Blockbuster or Rogers. For more info click this link http://www.apple.com/itunes/store/movies.html

MacBook Air

Apple has recently come out with a new laptop called the MacBook Air. It is currently the world's thinnest notebook. The MacBook air weighs only 3 pounds. It has a 13.3 in widescreen LED backlit display. The laptop has a full feature keyboard with illuminated keys which makes it easy to work in low light conditions. A built in sensor automatically adjusts the brightness of the keys and the display for optimal viewing conditions.

The MacBook Air comes built with a trackpad with multi-touch technology. You can pinch, swipe or rotate your fingers to interact with various programs. You can zoom in or out of pictures, text and images. This method proved successful in the itouch and iphone.

The Air comes built-in with 2GB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive. There is also the option of upgrading to a 64GB solid state drive. This drive provides more durability. The battery life of the Air can reach up to 5 hours long without being recharged. The isight built in camera is also a great feature for chatting anywhere.

The MacBook Air does not have an optical drive because it is built for the wireless world. Nearly anything you would typically use a disc for is available by wireless. For the times when you need a disc to install software, there is a new feature called Remote Disc. It lets you wirelessly borrow the optical drive from another computer in the area. All of your files can also be backed up wirelessly with the help of Time Capsule. Time Capsule is a Wi-Fi based hard drive station that lets you back up your files on Time Machine.
